Radical Self-Responsibility -- Warning: You may hate me for this
Radical Self-Responsibility -- Warning: You may hate me for this
With all the craziness in the world, in the wake of the murder George Floyd, on top of the explosion of a three-month quarantine, riots, protests and vandalism throughout our nation's cities. When it becomes too much to make sense of in the outside, I turn within for solutions.
From a dream interpretation perspective, I encourage clients to see the people, places, and situations through the lens of a hologram. All this is a fancy way to say: "Every character in your dream is you." "Every character in my dream is me."
Instead of being stuck in fight, flight or freeze as we stew in anger, blame, worry, we might simply do our part by looking at this as our dream. From an "If it were my dream," perspective (and it is definitely MY dream as it is YOURS), you and I are all the characters being highlighted in the media. You may protest this and say,"You or I would never put your knee on someone's neck and not let go when they cry 'Uncle'!" "You or I aren't the one lying face down on the pavement!" "You or I would never loot or vandalize our own property much less property that isn't ours!"
And, yet I say, "Oh, yes I/we are."More accurately I'd say, "Oh, yes I/we have."The macrocosm of humanity lives in the microcosm of each one of us:
What we see is what we be.
If you are reading this, you wouldn't have been drawn if you weren't striving toward making the world and your world a better place for all. You are no doubt on a conscious spiritual path, which makes you a kind, loving, thoughtful person. However, we all have, if even just a speck, of all the traits we've seen played out in the news.
This perspective isn't to shame us, it's to invite us into radical healing in the only way I see we truly can- by wrapping our arms around the parts of us who have abused our power ...and wrapping our arms around the parts of us crying out in pain from injustice right now.
When I heal the disparate aspects of myself, when I see myself and everyone, and when I learn to love all aspects of self in the most unlovable, I can be more of a healing presence when I walk out into the world.Of course, dreamwork isn't the only solution, but from my perspective it's a central pillar that can inspire action taken from a place of radical self-responsibility.
