Radical times call for radical solutions! 🙏
To me, the most difficult thing to deal with is a sense of powerlessness. So, I lean the wise words of my dear friend Steve Allen who tells me all the time: “Kelly, control your controllables.”
When I think about what is under my control, here are the 3 things I believe I/we can do, no matter what cray cray is happening in the world:
1.Radical Gratitude: To me, radical gratitude is when I can be grateful for everything, regardless of how screwed up it might appear to be. When I see life through the lens of radical gratitude, I'm looking past the surface to what the blessing in disguise could be.
For example, the events of January 6th, as much as they were completely devastating, I found myself feeling grateful that experiences like that are rare—not daily occurrences, like they are in some countries. I live in a country where this is an exception to the rule. That is worthy of my gratitude.
2. Radical Self-responsibility: This is not just a Burning Man credo. Radical Self-responsibility reminds me to clean up my side of the street—to be the change I wish to see in the world (thank you Gandhi). I'm not here to proselytize to anyone about what my beliefs are (although I’m doing it now, oops, sorry). But even I know, it’s more important to be an example. As I learned in 12 Step Programs: Attraction not Promotion. If I simply stay in my lane, at the very least, I think I stand a chance of not adding more drama or crazy to the mix.
3. Radical Dreaming: You guessed it. You knew dreams were going to show up in this list somewhere, didn't you?
Radical dreaming is where we lean heavily on our dreaming mind. Not just giving it a casual nod like it's a fluffy side dish, but where we truly open to our greater wisdom. Like I'm fond of saying, according to the American Hypnosis Association, our dreaming mind is 88% of our minds power, whereas our conscious mind (our logic, rational thinking, and reasoning) is a mere 12% of our minds power. What if the solutions don't reside in our ordinary way of thinking? What if our dreams, if we pay attention to them are providing us a way out of what seems like no way?
