Dying for Dia de los Muertos

Hi Dreamy Friend,

Join us for a virtual event Monday, Nov. 1st, 5-6:30 pm PST, to celebrate and honor your loved ones on the other side.

The last couple of years (thanks to COVID) have been the "dying-est" years. Never before had Dana and I lost more friends and family members in such quick succession.

It seemed that once a month, a cold wind would blow through our house, announcing with goosebumps up my spine and down my arms the Angel of Death was calling, yet again, to tell us she'd claimed another one of our beloveds.

In spite of having a (relatively) healthy and empowering relationship with what we'll call "death," I try not to feel sucker-punched with each discovery that another beloved had bitten the dust. Unless I was in deep meditation, tethered by an airtight umbilical cord, I'd feel a subtle sense of failure, defeat, even betrayal in discovering I was "losing" yet another human ally. I realized my sorrowful response was due to the Kool-Aid we all drink as humans...but it doesn't have to be so.

As you may have heard me share, this year I wrote a Dia de los Muertos Oracle Deck (with the amazing Emily Grieves creating original art) that will be out in time for next year’s Dia de los Muertos. I feel grateful to have said yes to this call, because it's been saving me, healing me, and rewiring my circuitry to overturn the effects of the mass hypnotism that makes death seem so morbid. In this process, it’s possible to behold the life/death/life process as normal, natural, and beautiful...not betrayal at all.

Don't get me wrong, I don't know if I'll ever get to the point where I stand and cheer when someone I love dies. But developing a relationship with the Angel of Death, with the help of the mythology that accompanies Dia de los Muertos, has been healing my heart in the most profound ways, helping me to live more fully and love more freely...and I hope it will for you too!

Bad news:

Because of COVID, Chez Leeby, Nancy T, and I will not be doing an in-person gathering in Teotihuacan…but we are looking to reschedule next year, so stay tuned…

Good news:

We are offering a virtual event Monday, Nov. 1st, 5-6:30 pm PST, to celebrate and honor your loved ones on the other side.

Join us as we:

  • Break the stigma that death and dying has to be sad, tragic, and sorrowful.

  • Give back our suffering in exchange for a loving, peaceful, empowering, celebratory relationship with death...and therefore life.

  • Affirm the gift of mortality by no longer taking life for granted, and maximize every moment to be present with the ones we love.
